It is pronounced in the Gascon style: "Ba-laiss-t?". The dryness of the summer was gently refreshed by the very welcome rain in September, ideal for giving a special flavour to the nectar from this small wine estate on which Merlot accounts for nearly 56% of the vines planted. The soil is right for it: a limestone promontory, an elegantly shaped hill, pleasant to look at. Its soil is also rich in silt, clay and gravel. Is that all? No! Rigorous cultivating techniques make this a hearty wine that can be enjoyed now but could easily be laid down for ten years to gain fullness.
The absurd whims of the weather have given a rare elegance to this château's 2005 vintage.
