In Gascony, place names always have a meaning. "Pad?re", which means both terroir situated" at the end of the heath" or "at the beginning of the earth" therefore has two. And that's not its only claim to fame. The ch?teau, on the edge of the Landes forest, enjoys the benefits of its ocean breezes. It is situated at the beginning of what is no longer just sand but not quite earth. In short, an ideal soil for vines.
Here, the vine shoots grow to give superb grapes and a 2005 wine that is almost Mediterranean... except that it's Gascon! Delightful on the palate, with liquorice, sweet pepper and fruit flavours. It must be made with Cot grapes.
